The Prisoner

The United States has the largest prison population in the world and the highest incarceration rate. The United States accounts for about 4 percent of the world’s population, but has more than a third of its population serving life sentences. Formerly incarcerated individuals are 10 times more likely to become homeless than the general public, and more than half of inmates are parents. The startling numbers and statistics of the prisoner should speak to pastors and church leaders as the harvest is white. The prison system is brimming with women and men who desperately need a fresh revelation of God’s love.

The Prisoner—a CityServe Compassion Initiative, educates, equips, and mobilizes local churches in how they can engage with and serve currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. In Matthew, Jesus said, “I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.”…“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 25:36 & 40.
